Understanding Your Pet's Needs

After my pet had a long, drawn-out battle with cancer, I realized that I needed to do a better job with understanding my pet's needs. I wanted to be there for them no matter what, so I started focusing on my other animals. They needed more love, attention, and medical care, so I focused on those things. I started taking them in for regular checkups and working on their physical appearance. I was able to spot a few other potentially catastrophic health conditions with my animals because of my actions. This blog is all about understanding your pet's needs.

Holistic Eye Infection Treatment for Your Cat

Gisele Pereira

One of the primary causes of chronic eye problems in cats is caused by the herpes virus. Some cats are exposed to the herpes virus as kittens when they are still in the womb. In some cats, the herpes virus lays dormant. However, in other cases, the herpes virus can flare up. When it does, it can cause chronic eye infections in your cat. Here are a few ways to treat chronic eye infections caused by herpes in your cat.

L-lysine

One way to treat chronic eye infections in your cats is by giving your cat L-lysine capsules. L-lysine is an amino acid that is sold in capsule or tablet form in most health food stores. This amino acid works naturally to combat the herpes virus in your cat.

You can purchase these capsules from your local health food store. In order to get your cat to eat them, you just need to break open the capsule and mix it into some canned cat food. It has a slightly salt taste to it that will be masked when it is mixed with some wet cat food.

In order to fight your cat's eye infection, you should give them two capsules a day for about a week or until their symptoms subside. After your cat's symptoms subside, you can cut back the dosage to one capsule a day. This will keep your cat free from chronic eye infections.

Homemade Saline Solution

Next, you need to take care of your cat's eyes while the L-lysine capsules are working. You will need to clean all the junk out of your cat's eyes as the amino acid tablets start to work.

You can make a homemade saline solution by combining a pinch of table salt with a cup of water. The water should be at room temperature. You don't want to scald your cat's eyes with hot water, nor do you want to freeze them with cold water; room temperature water works best for this solution.

Use an eye dropper or cotton ball to squeeze a little saline into your cat's eyes a couple of times a day. This will help wash away all the junk in your cat's eye and will help your cat's eyes heal.

If your cat suffers from chronic eye infections due to the herpes virus, you can fight it using L-lysine as well as a homemade saline solution. With these two simple things, you can naturally help your cat overcome their chronic eye issues. If you need further help, contact a holistic vet from a facility like Clayton Veterinary Associates.
