Understanding Your Pet's Needs

After my pet had a long, drawn-out battle with cancer, I realized that I needed to do a better job with understanding my pet's needs. I wanted to be there for them no matter what, so I started focusing on my other animals. They needed more love, attention, and medical care, so I focused on those things. I started taking them in for regular checkups and working on their physical appearance. I was able to spot a few other potentially catastrophic health conditions with my animals because of my actions. This blog is all about understanding your pet's needs.

The Top Signs That Tell You It's Time to Go to the Emergency Animal Hospital

Gisele Pereira

As a pet owner, you always want to make sure that you are doing what is best for them, especially when it comes to their medical needs. Therefore, you might want to take a few moments to check out the following signs that it might be time to visit the emergency animal hospital.

Walking Into Walls

If your pet is suddenly walking into walls, or other random things around the house, it may be time to be a little concerned. Your pet could have a severe infection or a tumor that has suddenly gotten out of hand. There could be a problem with its eyesight. Either way, you do not want to wait around to see if the problem gets better or not.

Excessive Vomiting

Pets will vomit from time to time. No matter how disgusting it may be, it is not always a reason to rush to the emergency animal hospital. However, if the vomiting is excessive, such as several times a day for more than a day or so, it may be time to take a trip to the emergency vet. The problem with a lot of vomiting is that your pet could quickly become dehydrated, which can lead to further problems than whatever it is dealing with at the moment that is causing the vomiting.

Swollen Stomach

If you have noticed that your pets stomach is suddenly hard and swollen, you will want to take it to the nearest emergency pet hospital. While there are a few things that can cause his type of symptom, it is generally because the animal ingests a lot of air while eating too quick and their stomach twists. This can be a fatal condition so there is not a lot of time to waste.

Inability to Walk

Pets that were walking just fine yesterday should still be able to walk today, unless something terrible has gone wrong. Normal problems with walking due to aging does not happen overnight. Your pet may have been hit by a vehicle, had something fall on it, or have an internal issue that has gotten out of control over night. Either way, you will want your pet to be examined by a professional as soon as possible.

With those few signs in mind, you should be more than able to figure out whether it is time to take your pet to the closest emergency animal hospital. If your pet's unusual behavior doesn't seem to warrant urgent treatment, then you may want to set up an appointment with a local veterinarian, such as Apple Valley Animal Hospital, just to be sure it isn't anything too concerning.
